After Lunch

After lunch we worked on....

  • Student portfolios
  • Google sites

Google Sheets

This morning we started with Google Sheets. Topics covered were:

  • Conditional formatting
  • Sparklines
  • Pivot tables
    • Neat way to take a LOT of data and boil it down to a simpler table
    • Easily manipulated
  • Motion charts
  • Flippity quiz show - Jeopardy made easy!
Then we moved into add-ons for sheets, forms, and docs. Focused on:
  • Flubaroo
  • Doctopus
  • Form Limiter
From here we moved to data with maps. (My Maps)

Multimedia Test Sets (MMTS)

Here is a link to a collection of resources that students can use and react to with regard to evolution and natural selection.

Using Google News in the Classroom

Main points:

  • Google collects news stories for you
  • Can modify so your interests appear more often
  • Search for keywords and ideas

Elementary Idea: Find an article from your area (e.g. Draper, UT) and read an abbreviated version and have students respond by drawing what they hear, or write their response.

Secondary Idea: Have students read a current event article and share (tweet-length) what it is about. (As an opener)

  • Alternatively: Have students read a science article (secondary) as a preview, then provide support/scaffolding as you work through the primary article as a class

Benefits of Hyperdocs

10 Best Google Chrome Apps and Extensions for the Classroom

These are a few of my favorite things....

Here is a link to my google doc with some of my favorite extensions and apps for chrome.

Google Calendar

I successfully put a calendar on my bog and set up appointment slots. The 'labs' for google calendar are simple, but useful tools to help heelp your calendar and life organized. I like auto-decline events.
